Emergency Procedures
Bleeding Control
- 1Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth
- 2Elevate the injured area above heart level if possible
- 3Apply a pressure bandage
- 4If bleeding doesn't stop, apply a tourniquet (limbs only) as last resort
CPR Basics
- 1Check for responsiveness and call for help
- 2Place heel of hand on center of chest
- 3Push hard and fast (100-120 compressions per minute)
- 4Give 2 rescue breaths after every 30 compressions
Choking Response
- 1Ask if the person is choking and can speak
- 2Stand behind and wrap arms around waist
- 3Make a fist above the navel, below ribcage
- 4Perform quick upward thrusts until object is expelled
Burn Treatment
- 1Remove from heat source and cool with running water
- 2Do NOT apply ice, butter, or ointments
- 3Cover loosely with sterile bandage
- 4Seek medical attention for severe burns
